Europe's Fleet Expansion

Europe’s truck market has started 2026 on a positive note, showing early signs of recovery after a challenging year for the commercial vehicle sector.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, new EU truck registrations increased by 10.7% in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 81,766 units. This growth was mainly driven by the heavy-truck segment, which recorded a strong 12.6% increase during the same period.

Several major European markets also showed encouraging momentum. Poland recorded a 32.8% increase in new truck registrations, followed by Spain at 17.1% and Germany at 6.9%. This points towards renewed confidence among fleet operators and logistics companies as they continue to invest in transport capacity.

This recovery is especially important because the EU truck market had faced a difficult period in 2025, when truck registrations declined by 6.2%. The positive start to 2026 suggests that the market is beginning to regain strength, supported by ongoing demand for road freight, fleet renewal, and long-term logistics growth.

For employers, this is a strong signal that transport activity across Europe remains active and future-focused. As fleets expand and modernise, the need for skilled, reliable, and deployment-ready drivers will continue to grow.

At Skillbee, we see this as a positive development for our European partners. With strong candidate pipelines across India, South Africa, and other sourcing markets, we remain focused on helping logistics companies access qualified driver talent and build stable workforce capacity for the future.
