Driver shortage in Europe

Europe’s logistics sector continues to face a significant driver shortage, and this is creating strong opportunities for skilled Indian professionals. According to the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the number of unfilled truck driver positions across Europe rose to more than 426,000 in 2024, with the gap projected to widen further through 2028 as an ageing workforce retires and fewer young drivers enter the profession.

Recognising the scale of this challenge, the European Commission published a landmark study in February 2026 on recruiting and integrating professional drivers from third countries into the EU labour market. This policy shift is opening structured, legal pathways for skilled drivers from countries like India, with high-demand destinations including Poland, Germany, Luxembourg, and Lithuania.

For Skillbee, this represents a timely and significant opportunity. As European employers actively look beyond their borders to fill these roles, our growing network of qualified Indian drivers positions us to connect our partners with reliable talent precisely when and where it is needed most.
